It seems that the fundamental thing is to get the ex-president admit "I did it". But this declaration merely adds prestige to the interviewer, and a not disdainable sum of money to the interviewed. The spectators are moved to think that "show talks" discover truth through nervous movements of the camera, the amazed eyes of Michael Sheen, the facial expressions of Frank Langella, the way of walking or sitting of the two contendent troupes, or, decisively, the imprudent sentence: "when the president does it that means that is not illegal". Catharsis is not attainable by Mr Nixon receiving as a present from Mr Frost the shoes buckled at the side. Watergate is just a loose lace of the big entanglement of Nixon's administration. Ron Howard's film stays far away from the crucial points.
