This independent film with an extreme low budget still held your attention to see where the director will take you. I didn't care for the ending but it was still entertaining.

Patrick Fugit seems to love doing weird movies. At least he has good taste, because this is another weird but enjoyable movie. Odd script but great performances and interesting ideas...

Wristcutters has two distracting flaws: it has a corny happy ending and at times it has a staged, trying too hard weirdness that has plagued other "indie" films like Garden State. Yet, it has enough great things about it that those flaws are minor. Patrick Fugit (Almost Famous) is excellent, in a brilliant, powerfully restrained turn as a man who kills himself, only to find himself in an afterlife that's the same as real life but more depressing, where no one ever smiles . Shea Wigham as his Russian rocker pal, is also great, and rather funny. Shannyn Sossoman isn't showy, but she has a great subtle, but assured, acting style that suits the part. Any movie that manages a touching but never sappy love story, clever black humor, an eventful road trip and cameo appearances by Tom Waits and Will Arnett is fine by me.
