In a movie year of unplanned pregnancies, this film fits right in. It is a tale of waitress trapped in a loveless, somewhat violent, certainly demeaning marriage. Into this already depressing life, she then must add a child as she learns of her pregnancy. For the majority of the film, it feels like this movie is going down the traditional route of the damsel in distress/knight in shining armor. Indeed it feels like Russell will be saved from her mundane life and now impending eternal servitude to a child by her doctor whom she begins an affair with. Thankfully, that is not where this story is going. It is a love story to be true but not of romantic love. Rather, it is a tale familial love. While I support a woman's right to choose, this movie shows just how rewarding the birth of a child can be. Russell found her peace, her strength, her happiness in her daughter. Of course, this movie wouldn't be complete though without the schmaltzy happy ending. It wouldn't be enough to give her this opportunity. We also see her inherit millions from her favorite diner, the owner. It would have been nice to see her work her way to a small shop, to see her be content in her life without the money but such is Hollywood endings. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful story with some great acting.

WoW! Keri Russell has to get an Oscar for her very emotional performance! Her acting is so good that one might think that it's really her Real Life Character! I agree with the other review, this movie can be really slow at time (that's why I only give 4 1/2 stars), but as slow & quirky as the storyline might be, this one probably will give women/girls such a liberating feeling at the end. Charming, romantic, heart warming and inspiring. To loving memory of the director and writer Adrienne Shelly (also acting). I believe she passed away. Good Movie! if you like romance and quirky charm movie, Go watch this movie!

I loved Waitress. It was an absolutely great movie. Keri Russel was fantastic. The scenes where she thinks of a pie in her head to whatever fits her mood is really cool. Definately see Waitress.
