Funny Games is a twisted and disturbing film that should be avoided at all costs. This is too sick for even fans of Tarrantino.

A wealthy family drive down to their lake house on a warm weekend to find that they may never be leaving. The husband is played by Tim Roth, the wife Naomi Watts, and their little son Georgie. A quack job shows up at the door to ask for some eggs, but ends up terrorizing the family. The psychopaths are played by Michael Pitt and Brady Corbert. The acting in this film is not the problem. It the way too grotesque stuff, that makes this a flop. It's not entertaining it is extremely disturbing, where I'm questioning if the writer is in his right mind. It's nothing but torture porn that is so unpleasant or entertaining. I have no problem with these type of movies, but the material in here is way too pshyco, even for my taste, and I'm into Tarrantino films and such alike. In the hands of another writer and director this could've been bearable, heck it could've even been good, but it just is a sad flop. This is too extreme even for Freddy Kruger movies and Friday the 13th. Avoid this even if it costs your life.

The movie immediately demands attention with it's tone of creepiness and mystique. However about midway you really start to fade away from that mystique and realize what it truly is: a **** movie that plays on shock value and nothing else.

I always say that you have to see a truly terrible film in order to fully appreciate a good one and this has set the standard for 'brutal' film (not meant the way the PR company would have you believe). It was self indulgent twaddle how else do you explain a 2 minute shot of an exterior of a house... at night... in the dark... what the bleep... and he had the cheek to do that twice! Please don't confuse stupidity for brilliance. Watch at your own peril.

If you are asking if it's true that this is the most terrifying movie you've ever watched then I say yes, yes it is. If you weren't asking, then now you know. So, as a horror film it does everything well - it will scare you. But why do so many people complain about it?

Well, its torture porn. Hostel did it with the vomit-inducing gore, and this one does it with its sadism. These are movies solely designed to make you feel very uncomfortable. Now, many will defend Haneke's intentions with Funny Games. They will say that this movie is meant to be a study on horror movies, and I agree with whomever says that this movie gets the genre. It demonstrates its knowledge of the genre by taking a meta-film approach, meaning that it steps outside of the boundaries of a script and set plot. But the way it does this becomes incredibly absurd right about the second to last act, where it throws away all subtleness. Ugh - and thence is when people start to dislike the film.

Believable performances, tight script, great vision by the director. This movie should have been an instant classic when it came out in '97 , and if not then, then now in 08. But for all it does for the genre it cannot shake the fact that when you boil the movie's brilliant execution, its all just torture porn.
