AH-mazing! This movie stayed with me for a long time.
The way Jolie portrayed Pearl was brilliant. It's like she's her, living her life and feeling every emotion that Pearl must have felt. Highly recommend, this one is a real gem!

Wow! There are many adjectives that can describe this movie but they all seem inadequate...honest, raw, depressing, all of the above. Because Daniel Pearl's kidnapping and murder really captured our hearts the first time around, you knew this film was going to be heart wrenching but, like an accident, you can't help watching it. The film portrays how Pearl's wife and entourage deal with his kidnapping and death. It's well-written, story is not exploitative, dialogue is well-delivered, natural chemistry exists between the actors who also did extensive research for their roles, and shots are jumpy, erratic, real...reflective of the emotions and feelings of uncertainty. It really is a wonderfully done film but extremely sad. It should be.

It was, however, also incredibly depressing. I have found the story playing on my mind for the last few days. That is the kind of impression it left me with.

A Mighty Heart is a detailed account of the search for kidnapped Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002. Pearl was kidnapped in Karachi by supporters of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed who claimed responsibility (and were later captured and convicted) for kidnapping and beheading Pearl in 2002. However, the story itself is really about Mariane Pearl and her struggle to cope with the loss of her beloved husband.

What struck me most about the film was Angelina's portrayal of Mariane (which is where most of the attention surrounding the film has focused). There seems to be little doubt that she will receive a (very well deserved) Oscar nomination for the role, and it really is a powerful and slightly haunting portrayal of a woman who (on the outside) is trying to remain calm and in control, for the sake of those around her and for her husband, and yet (on the inside) is being torn apart.

Dan Futterman stars as Daniel in the film. I have been a fan of Dan since I first saw him in Judging Amy - I thought that he was one of the best parts of the series. He was also the writer/producer of Capote which I also thoroughly enjoyed, and although you don't see a great deal of him in this film, he is hard to forget after you walk away.

I knew little about this story, but it is incredibly sad and moving. It is heartbreaking to watch a person lose their loved one, and to know that the person that you cared so deeply for died the way that Daniel Pearl did is awful. This is not a unique situation, but you still feel deeply for Mariane. The one fortunate part is that at least Mariane has her son Adam with her as a part of Daniel that she will keep forever.

I really enjoyed this movie, and was very moved. It is not a film to go and see unless you are in the mood for a deep and meaningful, but it is worth your time.
