I can honestly say that this film is quite unlike any horror film i've seen. True it does have some of the typical cliches but its still an original piece of work.

Its not the best film i've seen but it is worth watching.

Fairly decent Stephen King adaptation movie (never read the short story myself, though...I read the introduction! that's gotta count for something, right!?)...The pacing kind of clunks along at times (I guess that fits in with the story, making the viewer feel trapped...V_V)...One of my main gripes was early on...did he really need to whip out a pen & write down "=13"? Couldn't have counted 1+4+8 in his head? I know it's just a visual used for the audience's sake, but it still bugged the crap out of me...I enjoyed the twist when he first "gets out" because he didn't seem like a surfer, so I had figured it was a fake and that was the whole reasoning behind the surfing scene in the first place, but was pleasantly surprised when it turned out he hadn't and that it was a reverse fake...! It's like he was trapped in some dark, forgotten level of the Dark Tower (guess who's the Tower junkie who still wants DT movies?)...

BUT, just like every other Steven King movie/book, the last quarter of the movie nearly ruined the whole thing for me...

Quit reading if you don't want SPOILERS...

the "twist" where both the character and audience are meant to be tricked into thinking he's left the room, was ill paced... it slowed the movie to a crawl in an attempt to lull the viewer, but any horror fan worth his/her salt... or even anyone whose seen a movie in the past 10 years... wasn't fooled one bit, but instead annoyed. I did like the idea of his sacrifice and the last "Boo"... however it seemed way too cheesy and over the top emotional.

This is one of the best ghost stories I have ever seen. I really love this movie, especially the ending. It's abuot an author who writes about haunted hotel rooms. I woun't tell you more, just watch it.
