The movie deserves more credit, i think, than what it is given..it is charming, and funny, and deserves no rap about the characters, it flows well and the Steve and Dane both play the best roles in any movie they have done by far.i didn't find Little Miss Sunshine funny at all...call me a twit, but it didnt have flow, and was full of dry humor. its nice to see a movie, like Dan in Real Life, that busts a gut, but doesn't have parts that give u a raunchy feeling, or make u feel like ur watching something more inappropriate than it really has to be, like....dare i say....Knocked Up???

I thought the movie was good. I like movies that emphasize the importance of family and I thought this was more about that than a romance.

I went and saw "Dan in Real Life", Steve Carell's dramatic indie follow up to "Little Miss Sunshine". This move doesn't have anywhere near the same kind of charm that Sunshine had, and being a non-comedy, Steve Carell as an actor doesn't seem to have many options as to where he can go dramatically.

The subject matter tries to touch upon deep emotional issues as Carrell plays a widower with three daughters who falls in love with his brother's girlfriend, but I felt like it really ended up missing the mark.

By the end when it came down to it, I just didn't care if he got the girl or not. Two stars.

A pretty good movie that had a great script but really suffered from the lack of chemistry between the two main actors Steve Carell and Juliette Binoche. I really liked how the story flowed around the family gathering and Dan's troubles with raising his daughters by himself. I really didn't like that he just happened to fall in love with the girl his brother just happened to be dating.
