Watching this movie is just about as uncomfortable as watching two friends breaking up. Was that the point of the movie? All I can glean from it is that men are stupid idiots, and women are evil & manipulative. It's not that it's a bad movie. It's decently acted and the screenplay never gets too corny. It depicts a real life adult situation that could come about when two people simply don't communicate with each other and it's a lesson in real life relationships that this ALWAYS happens. I just assumed that with Vince Vaughn involved that it would be a comedy. While there are some laughs in the film, it just made me uncomfortable to watch and not uncomfortably squirmy in a good way like The Office. This just wasn't my type of film- even Jennifer Aniston's bare ass couldn't save it for me.

The previews for The Break-Up advertise it as a romantic comedy. The ending result isn't quite as advertised, but rarely anything in Hollywood is.
Gary (Vince Vaughn) and Brooke (Jennifer Aniston) meet at a baseball game, where Gary offers her a hotdog and convinces her to go out on a date with him, even though she is at the game with another man. We then flash forward three years later and see the married couple preparing for a family get together. After watching this on screen couple for ten minutes, though, you begin to wonder why in the world are they married.
Gary and Brooke argue continuously. Gary wants a pool table now; Brooke wants to wait for a bigger place. Gary wants to play video games; Brooke wants to go to the ballet. Gary wants to relax and Brooke wants him to help clean up. This ladies and gentlemen is what you get for the next hour and half.
Don’t get me wrong, there are some good laughs in the movie. Particularly from the supporting characters, including Gary's longtime friend (Jon Favreau), and Brooke's brother (John Michael Higgins), a closeted homosexual who ends up unexpectedly kicking Gary's ass. Actually the worse parts of the movie are when Gary and Brooke are paired up together, which is not a good thing. Vince Vaughn is one of the funniest comedians around, and Jennifer Anniston has great comic timing, but the script just doesn't work. The characters don't have anything in common, and there are many painful arguments that just aren’t entertaining. Many of the arguments are very realistic of problems couples experience in real life, but why would we paid 10 bucks to watch something we can see at home?
One of the best parts of the movie is when Gary and Brooke actually start communicating with each other about their feelings. What results is one of the best dramatic scenes that either actor has ever done. But that's not exactly what the audience paid to go see.
Final Thoughts: Both actors try, but many audience members going in expecting side-splitting laughs will be disappointed. Overall, it’s a decent film to check out on video.

To many characters with shallow purpose. This was a mindless romp, that neither explored the depths of love, commitment, loyalty, humility, compassion, and the multitude of purpose for even getting into a relationship NOR did it simply take the crazy comedy way out, ala War of the Roses.
The only redeeming qualities are the interplay between Vince Vaughn and Jennifer Aniston, whom manage to keep their badly written characters alive long enough to get us to the end.
Date movie? Maybe. Be weary though, this movie ends melancholious, guised as a happy ending. Forlorn love and young relationships should be ready for a serious conversation at the completion of this movie.

I thought that "The Break-Up" was one of the worst "romantic comedies" that I have ever seen. While I thought that Vince Vaughn had some really hilarious lines, especially towards the beginning of the movie, I thought that the audience just never got a chance to get to know the characters. I mean, the movie starts with them meeting at Wrigley Field and then fast forwards (through the credits) through the couple's relationship until the point where they were starting to fight. I never felt sympathetic for either one of them and didn't care if they got back together.

I wasn't impressed at all by this movie. I didn't found anything new in it or anything surprisingly good. The script bored me and the actor performance wasn't the best I've seen.

The Break up is a really funny and quite original to a point. Vince and Jennifer are absoloutely perfect for this movie. There were a few things which could have changed but nothing too big.

It was good. I mean it wasnt just, spew your coke out your nose funny, but it was funny and an entertaining film to watch. I liked it. and I think its funny how Jen did this right after the big split with brad.
