Mel Brooks is best known for being a comic. A good comic at that. And he's now going to the movie business. His first movie is unsuprisingly a comedy. And it's not a bad movie at all. It does have it's rough edges, but it's a great movie you do not want to miss!

The premise could not be any more tempting: two broadway producers realise that nowadays you can actually make more money with a flop than a hit. The movie is fun to watch when you see the great lenghts the producers go to make this the worst show ever. You will be suprised how amazingly entertaining this movie is.

The acting is subtle, but gets the job done. Zero Mostel, Gene Wilder and Mel Brooks himself take the starring roles of the film. They do a good job of bringing the characters to life. They actually have feelings and expressions that do make you believe these characters are real and that they do get into some real trouble throught the film. The acting won't wow anybody, but it is good enough to be believable, and that's a requirement most film fail to provide these days, so it is a sight to sore eyes.

The visual effects are varied thru ought the film. The sets are done wonderfully, but some of the visuals (like the explosion at the end) are clearly fake and very ugly. It does stand out a lot, enough to remind you of it's budget. The score is actually very forgetable. It's actually one of the most annoying parts of the film. At the biggining of the film, the music is way too loud, so loud it hurts your ears, and so loud that you can't hear the actors talking! What's worse, the music isn't catchy. So much that you actually forget that there was any movie in the film.

But what makes this film so enjoyable is not it's production values, but it's comedy. This is a great show. Worthy of your money. You will never laugh so hard during a movie! Everything that happens in the movie is funny. You must see this film no matter what. It may annoy in some places, but you cannot miss this film, and if Mel Brooks can create classics like this, I can't wait what he does next.
