Great movie. Interesting plot that made you sit on the edge of your seat for the last half. The cast was well picked for the characters they played.

The choice of in-flight entertainment has improved and this is well worth a second look in more comfortable surroundings. Contains one of my all time favourite songs 'I'd Go the Whole Wide world' by Wreckless Eric, which is worked nicely into the film. Stars D. Hoffman and E. Thompson in quite an unusual story. Ambient mood.

There are a hundred reasons why this film shouldn't work, from the gimmicky plot to the surprising casting of Will Ferrell in the starring role. But, against all odds, this ends up being a thoroughly engrossing, absolutely delightful movie.

Add in the bravura performances from Dustin Hoffman, Emma Thompson, Maggie Gyllenhaal AND Queen Latifah, and you have a film that should have made it on to a lot more must-see lists.

I have only one question- where was The Academy? There were certainly at least a couple of Oscar-worthy performances in this flick.

Suprisingly, a really great movie, in my opinion, this is Will Ferrel's best movie perfomance, I hope he keeps making great movies like this.

When I first saw the commercial for this movie I dreaded watching it. After watching this movie I was pleasantly surprised. It's actually pretty good and its good to see Ferrell acting not so over the top. Normally his characters are so wild and crazy it does not allow him to actually act. This movie allows him to explore his acting ability and not with just comedy. Yes there are some funny scenes but more then anything Ferrell plays the straight man around the rest of the lunancy. He plays a man who finds out that he is a character in a book. He then tries to find out whats happening and he goes to Hoffman for help. Hoffman is actually good in his small role as are the other actors and actresses. The thing about this movie is that it is cute. The ending is a feel good ending but its still well done. The story is original even though it can put some people off. I would reccommend this movie even if not to see the acting. It is one of the few movies that has like 4 academy award winners in it.

Marc Forster's latest film may be "Charlie Kaufman lite", but by no means is it a bad movie. The script is more accessible, and less complex and creative than the Kaufman penned scripts for "Being John Malkovich" and "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" for sure, but it's still a moving, funny and well acted movie. Will Ferrell gives his best performance yet as the mundane, numbers obsessed IRS agent Harold Crick whose life suddenly has a narrator. Maggie Ghylenhaal is also excellent as a baker he is auditing. Emma Thompson gives yet another marvelous performance as the reclusive tragedy author who is writing her latest novel about the seemingly doomed Harold Crick. It is another fine movie from the director of Monster's Ball and Finding Neverland.

+ some really good visuals (counting the brush strokes type of things)
+ arrested devolopement guy + starts off with a lot of potential

- forgetable performances
- story slowly unwinds from good to horrible
