Ridley Scott is a brilliant director, he's at home behind the lens on a big budget blockbuster but also moreso when it's a "little" film by his standards.. Like the excellent Matchstick Men a few years ago, Scott has again gone for a simple story. The film begins a few vintages ago, when a young Max Skinner is living with his uncle in his French Chateau that make terrible wine!

His uncle teaches him the importance of honour, reputation and the important things in life... The film then skips forward a few vintages later and young Max has grown into a pommy **** who has none of the morals his uncle taught him.

Max receives word that his uncle has died and being his only living relative, Max inherits the property.. Wanting to get his affairs sorted quickly, by selling the property. Max arrives in France only to realize that there is more to life than money & greed.

A Good Year is an enjoyable romantic comedy, has great dialog and humor, brilliant lush cinematography and is just an enjoyable uplifting way to spend 2 hours.
