Stylistically speaking, this movie was shot beautifully. It took me back to early film noir pics, to Bogart films. You had the femme fatale, the soft black and white film, the angled shots. It really is a beautiful film but...BUT...it took me days to watch this movie. I just could not get into it. A great cast and an interesting film personality did nothing to engage me, to pull me into the murder mystery. I wasn't intrigued. I was in desperate need for the end to come and fast forwarded through as much as I could. The slow pacing, the dramatic dialogue...all are facets of typical film noir but also the very reasons why I wasn't hooked. Still, if that's your bag, this might be the movie for you.

Here comes another black and white movie from george clooney. This movie is a throw back to the old 30s detective film noirs. Its actually pretty well made. The scene is WWII and the germans are losing. Clooney plays a writer who gets in the middle of a murder. As he is investigating the murder he is being stopped at all angles. One of the funny things about this movie is that clooney plays against type and he is not the macho man. He actually "loses" his fights a few times. The acting in this movie is well done as is the directing. I think this is a slickly done film that is worth a viewing if you are a fan of this type of genre. Its pretty well done.
