Ocean's Thirteen is the latest film in the popular heist franchise. While not as good as the first, it is light years better than the second and manages to redeem the franchise.

The film is all about revenge. When Reuben, the crew's financier, cohort & friend, falls ill because of a deal gone bad with Willy Bank played by Al Pacino, Danny and the others decide to rig all of Bank's casino games to offer big payouts so he loses about $500 million in one night. The rigging takes extensive planning going so far as to plant someone in a dice manufacturing plant in Mexico so the dice can be rigged from the start. The plan also involves making sure Bank's casino fails to achieve a 5-star rating by planting their own reviewer and making sure the real reviewer is treated poorly.

The intricate plot details can sometimes be confusing plus it's a little hard to swallow that the con succeeds so well with everything happening according to their plans- but it's still fun to watch everything unfold. The performances definitely do not have the tongue in cheek feel of the second movie. In fact they are much closer to the original. The actors definitely feel comfortable in these roles and they have a lot of fun with them.

The movie is slick, stylized and is Hollywood at it's glitziest. Aside from a few logical inconsistencies- I can understand rigging blackjack and slots so that everybody can win, but craps and roulette only have winners when their numbers hit, there would still be lots of losers! And how does everyone cash out so fast?!? Despite that, the movie is good, harmless fun.

First of all, big up's to bigb89's EXCELLENT review and recap: read it. Second of all, this is a fun movie. This flick exudes fun, and watching it, you can just believe that everyone on that set, from the actors to the crew, had a blast. You will too, if you don't expect too much from this admitted trifle.

An improvement on the ego-fest that was Ocean's Twelve, but although it was an entertaining watch overall, it unfortunately feels like little more than just a watered down re-working of the first film.

Since such smartness doesn't bother you, you'll like it as well. Although there's a revenge instinct now, it makes no great difference. But their "smug" style still is the funniest deal and I think it's the main spot on plot.
