A very good action movie that was fun from beginning to end. An excellent cast helped deliver the goods on this film and the director really did a great job at story telling. Alicia Keys looks amazing in the film and should continue acting as I'm sure she will improve. A must see if you are a fan of any of the cast. I was really surprised to see a couple of my favorite actors get knocked off pretty quick.

This is a great action movie. The final fight is a huge action-fest not for the faint of heart. Death & destruction abound. Blood every-****in-where! Good n gory.

Smokin aces was a very good film and it was enjoyable. The Plot. Buddy Israel a traitor and a rat has a 1.00.000 dollar bounty on his head so $ hit men are hired to take him out.

Smokin' Aces, is a film that made half of my brain say "That's nuts!", and the other half say "What the hell am I watching?". Its a great film by all means, I just thought there were too many characters and plots, and things happening at the same time. So its pretty hard to follow. The plot of this film is about Buddy "Aces" Israel, who is going to spill the beans on a mafia don. Well, a $1,000,000 bounty on him, and now its a race between the assassins to get him first. I thought that the plot was really intelligent, and makes you think a little bit. The cast is phenomenal, with Ben Affleck, Alicia Keys, and Ryan Reynolds. The big problem with this film is that, frankly, theres so much stuff happening, switching scenes(Assassin to Assassin), flash backs, and trying to figure out if the persons dead or not, can be a little too much to handle in the short time that is a film. But a good film. 4/5 stars.

This movie had one of the best set-ups of all time: A motley assemblage of tough guys (and gals) converge on Lake Tahoe, where sleazy Vegas magician/small time hood Buddy "Aces" Israel is holed up in a penthouse, about to turn State's evidence on the last old school Mafia Don in America. Their varying reason for seeking out Aces almost remind me of the old Eurythmics song: some of them want to use him; some of them want to abuse him- more specifically, clip him and cut out his heart at the request of said Don for a million-dollar bounty. So, everyone, from bail bondsmen to Feds to mobsters to steely contract killers shows up, and bullet-riddled mayhem ensues.

That alone would have made this an enjoyable, disposable diversion. But there is more to Smokin' Aces than one would expect. The plot is crackling with twists and turns. The acting is superb. And the direction includes some suprisingly artistic flourishes. This one is well worth your time.

Smokin' Aces is a movie that builds up a whole load of anticipation. From the very beginning we are treated to the gimmick that there is only one mafia Don left, Primo Sparazza, who is dying of illness. Before he dies, he wants the heart of his hated rival, Buddy "Aces" Israel. For the hit, he puts out one million dollars in cash. Naturally, all kinds of hitmen(and women-hit'people'?) gather to be the first to kill Buddy Israel and carve his heart out.

Nice premise, right? Makes you wonder what'd happen if, let's say, the bail bondsman meets up with the torture artist. Or, if the two FBI agents meet up with the Neo-Nazi brothers. Will they fight? Will they team up? Will there be double-crosses and other murders? The build is just electric, not only because of the premise I mentioned before, but also because these are different kinds of hitmen out for the hit, thus opening the door to a world of possibilities in character development. It had me at the edge of my seat.

But it failed to deliver. Maybe it's the short duration, but there's so much that could've happened that time. So much I was expecting, and while what I got wasn't exactly bad, it wasn't exactly good either. The character development here suffers the worst. Some of them barely do anything, though we are treated to glimpses of their personalities, this barely skims the surface. And there was no hitman-vs-hitman face-off, much to my chagrin. I enjoyed it, check the stars I gave it, but my advice...just be warned, alright? You might like it, and you might not.

  In 2002, Carnahan made an intense and violent little cop film, "Narc," with Jason Patric and Ray Liotta. He seemed to have absorbed the influences of John Cassavetes and Martin Scorsese and come up with a style of his own. I was a fan of that movie, but Smokin' Aces feels like Quentin Tarantino's "Kill Bill" pushed much further along into lethal absurdity.
