The Assassination Of Jesse James By The coward Robert Ford is a very good movie. Fantastic cinematagrophy and wonderful acting from Casey Affleck. The directing goes up and down, from being realy good to just medicore. And wasn´t Jesse James shot in the back and not in the head? first half of the movie is good, but it gets better the second half. Nominated for 2 oscars i think for best supporting actor and best cinematagrophy, The Assassination of Jesse James... is a movie i recomend.

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford is a foreshadowing that this is probably a very long movie, it is, and guess what, I wasn't bored one second of it. The movie mostly focuses on Robert Ford, played by the very young talented Casey Affleck. Bob Ford is a young man obsesses with the famous American outlaw, Jesse James (Brad Pitt). As the film gets deeper and deeper Bob starts to want to be him instead of just be in his gang. It is a story of betrayal to yourself and to your friends, and a deeply epic story. Casey Affleck gives an amazing performance, one that I think will boost him from the reputation of Little Affleck or Ben's little brother, to the point when people will be saying to Ben Affleck, "You're Casey's older brother". Brad Pitt for once also gives a tremendously good performance. The movie did get unfairly overlooked but it's still a great film that is a must see.

As a general rule, I do not like voice over. I find it detracts from the flow of the film. In this case, though, it works. It feels more like someone reading from a book and it fills in enough detail that the film itself would have to leave out, thus giving the viewer some background about why things were the way they were.
Pitt is very good in this role, dark and isolated, but this also detracts from the foul ability of the character as we never truly see him as deranged nor completely sober. Casey Affleck doesn't feel committed at times, but over all is neurotic approach and child like demeanor work to the point of tears. I really would have liked more follow through. The end story, the reason, the redemption, and the eventual end all seemed like they came to quick.
This is not a western in the classic sense. James is an American Icon, some might think him a hero. The truth of course is that he was an outlaw and Bob Ford was an outlaw as well. It's a tough case of finding balance and point of reference when so much of what goes on is a dark world. From this dark region of the human spirit is where this movie really excels, it will leaving you broken in some way. Knowing that the completion of both Jesse James and Bob Ford's lives leaves you incomplete and wounded.
The direction is great, the use of the out of focus lens and time lapse is almost perfect. The dark, snowing world, the longing, the pain. It holds up and you follow along perfectly.
