The plot is horrible. I wish they made the plot better. If Grudge kept me interested to watch, this time no. I actually fell asleep.

If you remember the first movie, it told the story through two different timelines, eventually connecting the first chain of events with the second at the end. This time the story is told in much the same way, except that now there are three paths to follow. The first thread is a direct continuation of the events immediately following Karen’s hospitalization at the end of Grudge 1. Her sister has come to Tokyo from the US with the intent of bringing her home. Of course, she finds Karen’s research, goes to the house, and along with a journalist who has been following the case, goes in search of the real roots of the problem with the ghosts. It’s kind of interesting because we learn a little more backstory of the mother who is the main antagonist.
The other two timelines take place two years later. 3 high school students go to the house to play a trick on their wannbe friend. They bring the curse on themselves and proceed to get taken out. Meanwhile, a mysterious new girl is brought back to her home in Chicago and infects the wife of the family living in the apartment next to them with the curse.
There are many similarities with the first movie in the way the story is told and the themes involved. The three stories all happen at different times, but like before they are interwoven with each other throughout the length of the movie. While the two latter events come together pretty good at the end like the first movie did, the continuation storyline has an ending that is pretty weird. It goes on with some imagery that made it a little unclear what they were trying to suggest. This is part of the Japanese style of filmmaking though. Not all loose ends are tied up and explained. Again the point is driven home that this curse is bigger than anyone and cannot be stopped. The filmmakers seem to take this a step further however, and state that it is growing, able to infect not just people who go to the house but people who come into contact with affected individuals. Also, some of the scares have lost their luster slightly because we know what to expect. And by the end of the film, so many people are being taken out that it gets a slight bit repetitive. That being said though, this movie is still scarier than anything else out there right now. I get a chill up my spine every time I hear that moaning. I am not one that gets scared at movies, but I will freely admit to turning on every light in the house after watching it. I was even hesitant to get my laundry from the basement because it was late and everybody else was asleep!
So, the first movie is better but this one still manages to be freaky. BTW, if you want a cultural experience, go out and rent Ju-on. This is the Japanese film that the original Grudge was based on. If I remember correctly, its subtitled but is just as spine-tingling as the American version and its interesting to note the differences between east and west versions.

I can say that the plot is horrible, but there are some scenes that are very scaring. I didnt watch Grudge 1 but I assume its scaring, too.

Boring... and, despite adding to the plot new info, it lacks content. It didn't scared me at all... in fact I as always antecipating the apparitions. A lot of things didn't make sense and it was another good example of bad sequel. I guess i'm done...

The Grudge 2 is a sequel to the 2004 hit remake of Takeshi Shimizu's Japanese cult classic Ju-On:The Grudge.While many may be under the opinion that The Grudge 2 is a remake of Ju-On:The Grudge 2 will be disappointed because this is a completely original chapter in the Ju-On saga.This movie provides explanations for a lot of the confusing things about The Grudge as this film gets more in depth into the character Kayako and shows a lot more about her death and her family history it also tells us why she makes that hauntingly creepy noise before taking her victims.I loved the way The Grudge 2 had a lot more characters than the first film and i liked how all the characters were spaced apart all over the world and differed in age unlike the first movie that had two main characters in their mid twenties.Sarah Michelle Gellar doesn't appear very long in the film but she hangs in their long enough to help us get an understanding of what happened after the events that took place at the end of The Grudge.The trailers portrayed Amber Tamblyn as the lead character in this film but personally i thought she was the weakest character both plot wise and when it came to acting.My favourite characters were Arielle Kebbell's character and the American family i found them to be the most developed and three dimensional characters.I don't like the new "cat kid" he doesn't really resemble the old one very much and is a very random character with little to no importance in the story.This film follows a much simpler and unfortunately a much more unoriginal plot style unlike the first movie which jumped back and forth in time.I didn't think the score was good either it was very loud and very distracting much like those 1960's horror films anytime something scary happens this big bang of music draws your attention away from it.The acting was pretty good but not as good as the acting was in the first one i personally think Amber Tamblyn doesn't suit horror movies.The first film also had more of a creepy feel and a surreal, paranormal atmosphere whereas The Grudge 2 lacks in set design,lighting, and atmosphere.A few of the scares take place in mid day which totally takes away from whatever suspense is being built up because a ghost killing someone in broad day light doesn't compliment what kind of atmosphere the movie is trying to generate.

The worst bit of this whole movie was watching that little kid's miserable death being experienced over and over again.

The movie was boring overall.

It is worse then the fist one, but still a good scare fest, for those who like it like me, and jump every time Kayako or her son appear on screen. Just didn't understan why so manny parrallel stories, a bit difficul to follow.

To say that this movie follows the suit of bad sequels never living up to the original is an understatement. The whole idea of The Grudge following people and such really does not make sense. Not to get too much into the movie but the whole plot is ridiculous. The "scary" scenes just do not do it anymore. We have seen the whole people in the movie do not see the monster but we do soooo many times that its overkill. The actual horror sequences in this movie tend to feel like a copy of other horror movies i.e. The Ring, Pulse and any other remakes of japanese horror films that have flooded the market place these past few years. The acting is ok as usual with more screen time given to the pale lady and the pale boy. Does it make the movie any scarier? nope or better? nope. It just makes the movie more annoying.. Please Please no more sequels of japanese movies. I was surprised how successful this movie was the first time around. The sequel pretty much put an end to a franchise that should have ended at one. Skip this one unless you are extremely board.
