A trifle of a movie, but it does what it sets out to do- takes a nice concept to a reasonably satisfying conclusion, with a few laughs thrown in along the way. Kudos to Luke Wilson for an endearing, if cutesy, performance and to Rainn Wilson for some of the film's truly funny moments. And who knew Uma Thurman had the kind of comic timing she displays here in a bravely vanity-free performance. Decent special effects and production values round out the picture for this surprisingly enjoyable movie.

This movie is overrated. I was expecting it to be a funny-break up movie, but it's not even kind-of funny. Uma Thurman's character is annoying on all fronts. (Which is strange, because as a child she seemed well-balanced, yet she grew up into a needy screwball.) Owen Wilson is a wishy-washy boy Lois Lane. The only likeable characters are Anna Faris and Rain Wilson.

At some points it feels like the dialogue and the characters are openly putting-down the premise of the movie, which seems self-defeating. Also, they've got not 1, but 3 superhero sex scenes, that were just-plain juvinelle and humorless. Why have something lame once when you can have it thrice?

The last 15 minutes were pretty funny, and the ending was good. Why couldn't the whole movie be like the last part? Except for the ending, I think I laughed once during the whole movie. It could've been funny, but I guess that wasn't what they were going for.

The story idea looks great on paper. A super-hero who has trouble keeping a boyfriend because she's emotionally wacko. It seems like there's so much you can do with that idea. However, the potential was never realized. The funniest gag was where she throws a shark through a window at a guy. But we already saw that in the trailer. Every other super-powered fit of rage was rather mundane in comparison. She punches car windows, throws stuff really hard, and other normal everyday stuff. Just with super-strength which results in slightly more destruction but not enough to really be funny. The underlying relationship story was rather thin so the movie really needed great gags to carry it. Unfortunately, they just weren't there.
