This movie started out really good, but ended up having a very anti-climactic ending. A movie about the tragic war in the 60s turns in to a chick flick. Seriously, I would not recommend it since the movie is overall all over the place. I mean in one minute there doing something, they break into song and their 3000 miles away. I didn't really like it. I like all the parts that dealt with war. Other than that it was very tedious, especially the "I Am The Walrus" song.
Eh, okay enough to rate it 2 and a half stars.

When I heard this movie had the beatles written all over it, i know i just HAD to watch. The trailer was very impressive, although I kind of dispise Evan Rachel Wood, for no particular reason. The music was great! I think they really did the songs justice. I truly enjoyed the visions. I thought they were totally awesome (dispite what my friend thinks). The only thing that did bug me was that around half way through the movie, the movie sort of slow down, the story wasnt getting anywhere, and to be honest it was kind of boring. Overall, it was great.

LET IT BE! The movie was great and the story showed and captivated the truth with that time. I thought the movie was great and the singing was mind blowing. Paid tribute to a great band that helped change music forever.

Across the Universe is a really good movie. It holds tight in the 'romance/drama' genre until perhaps the middle, and turns into a musical, which is very suprising if you didn't know this movie was a music movie.

What a mess of a movie.. some people would think hey this is a good idea.. lets use the beatles songs to make a MOVIE!!.. yes.. you see the actors in the movie living their lives and then all of a sudden they break into a beatles song or they put the character in a situation where there is a song title. If this sounds lame then this is not the movie for you. Yes the beatles songs on this movie are beloved but the basic premise is silly. The acting in this movie is horrible. There is a thin plot somewhere here about a guy who comes to ny from britian but it gets all jungled up in between the singing. Yes the songs here are nice but the actual acting and story are not enough to warrant a movie. Skip this one at all costs.

"Across The Universe" is a product of The Beatles' legendary sound fused on the silver screen, resulting in a two hour, 11 minute musical that will make you laugh, cry and everything in between.

The film combines an enduring time period--the Vietnam War--with music, romance, a dash of comedy and a pinch of psychedelic cinematography.

It begins as Jude, a young dockworker in Liverpool, England, travels to the United States to find his father, a former solider who he has never known.

There, he befriends Max, a rebellious kid with a privileged history, along with his sister, Lucy. The three travel to New York for fun and adventure.

They move into a small apartment with a singer who's trying to make it to the big time.

The trio's lives change rapidly as Lucy joins the movement of an anti-war group, and Max is drafted. Jude, frustrated, tries to maintain a relationship with Lucy and his artistic ambition.

The Beatles flow through this movie like water. Constructed in musical format, the film creates great imagery with the songs that they convey.

For example, the song "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" is portrayed as Uncle Sam's memorable approach to the war and how the boys are turned into soldiers.

The film's choreography is impressive, seamlessly coordinated with their respective Beatles songs.

In addition to the music of The Beatles, there are several references throughout the film to their work via character names and dialogue.

For instance, "Max" was pulled from the playfully disturbing track "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" from the album "Abbey Road."

Although the movie may have been long, the time flew.

Its acting was superb, and "Across The Universe" has certainly earned a permanent place in the musical film genre.

I got to say I had no compulsion to see this other that I had a friend in the animation field who want to check out the eye candy. Oh, and it is full of eye candy. But as they moved through the story and a greatest hits list of tastefully reorginized Beatles hits, I started to get into it. Now is this the deepest plot and characters, no; is the most memerable film ever, no; is it entertaining, yes. If you've got an open mind to a more sureal type of movie this is a great movie. But it is not for everyone by a long shot.

"She came in through the bathroom window," - I was giggling, turned around and no one else in the entire theater seemed to get it!

A real throwback to Magical Mystery Tour. Beautiful colors, surreal images and a fairly accurate historical setting. Sure, Janis and Jimi didn't jam, but you almost wished they had after seeing this one. A nice one for ma-ma-ma-my generation.

This movie is beautiful. Both the cinematography, the sets, the costumes, and the music is beautiful. However, there is one thing that isn't quite so beautiful in this film; the plot. It's as confusing as a blind man telling me how many fingers I'm holding up (and getting it correct without guessing). First Jude is trying to find his father, then he hangs out with Max, then he meets Lucy, then they go bowling (magnificent scene), THEN Max and him find an apartment, etc, etc. Although it's confusing, the movie is fantastic as a musical. The music is incredible (of course it is; it's the Beatles!) with actors ACTUALLY singing unlike that other musical about that high school and Vanessa Hudgens.

One thing that really surprises me is that this movie's PG-13. There's A LOT of smoking (cigarettes and pot both included), some language (I believe they say F%$! at least once), and they show Lucy's nipple. And it's PG-13. Very surprising. However, that shouldn't stop you from seeing the wonderful musical that is Across the Universe.
