at first its all dull but in the end the story gets better and more interesting,I can say it is most about J.Hudsons character...

Enjoyable enought, but ultimately a dissapointment. Beyond the high spots of Eddie Murphy's breakthrough performance (he wuz robbed!) and Jennifer Hudson's transcendent debut, there was nothing 4 or 5-star about this film. A few of the musical numbers are catchy; the rest are clunky and antiquated- and the story is overlong and seriously cliched. Beyonce does a better than expected acting job in the lead role, and the supporting cast is solid. The production is top-notch. I just wish there had been a stronger story at the center of the film.

I watched this movie under protest because my wife wanted to watch it. It was definitely not my first pick of movies to watch. I was pleasantly surprised on how good the movie was. The acting was, for the most part, top notch. I like Eddie Murphy and I usually find myself watching, and liking, his movies but here it seemed to me that he was just playing himself channeling James Brown. Also, Beyonce can't act. She never has been able to act and probably never will. Jenifer Hudson was awesome! I watched her on American Idol and enjoyed her singing but never would have thought that she could act! She is great in this movie! Jamie Foxx is great in the movie as well. I am a big Jamie Foxx fan and think he is a great actor in pretty much everything he does. The movie itself had some problems though. I understand that the movie is a musical but there would be no singing except for the concert stuff and then all of the sudden someone would break into song. I didn't get it and in my opinion it brought me out of the movie. Oh well. The story itself was long. They maybe should have cut it down to an hour and a half or so. It seemed to drag on a bit.

With a cast like Beyoncé and Jennifer Hudson, I have to say, I wasn't very excited about seeing this movie. I'd listened to previews of the soundtrack and heard all the Oscar hype about it, so I decided to go along. I am very glad that I've seen this movie. The introduction reminded me of Walk The Line - it was upbeat, and didn't give too much away. The soundtrack was absolutely fabulous; each singer shone at one point in the film. Jennifer Hudson really surprised me with her acting, although she did get annoying with all her whining. Beyoncé was a revelation - who knew that girl could act like that! She looked as though she's been acting for years - I was very impressed. Jamie Foxx was easy to hate from the start - he just oozed sleaziness, as did Eddie Murphy but he turned out good.

One of the downsides is that I found myself getting very confused about what year it was and how many years had passed. Normally in films it either tells you (2 years later) or you have a little montage of time passing but in this, the screen just went black for a few milliseconds and about 5 years had passed! Towards the end of the movie, I wasn't sure whether 10 years had passed or 20 - I still don't know. Also, it was so obvious sometimes who each character was based on. Eddie Murphy was the obvious Marvin Gaye character, Beyoncé was easily Diana Ross and... they even had a singing family with afros and a little kid singing vocals - Jackson 5 anyone?

Overall it was a great film - Oscars definitely deserved. I've ordered the soundtrack because it was that good. This film is almost on par with Walk The Line although no-one seems to have Joaquin Phoenix's charm or Reese Witherspoon's ooomph! It certainly wasn't 2 hours wasted.

What a movie.

So today I saw the movie event of the season, Dreamgirls. In the days, weeks of anticipation I'd been reading a lot about the movie. I'd hear a lot of other people say how much they either really loved or really hated it. I was nervous but it has my girl Beyonce in it. Now obviously I'm going to be a bit bias because Beyonce is in it but I'm going to try to be as fair as I can. So here's my review.

Dreamgirls works in every category. Musically, Visually, and in acting. My only complaint about it is that it should have been longer. I would have rather sat through it for three hours than to speed by it in a little over two. Now obviously the movie won't be for everyone. It's a musical and there's a lot of singing. A LOT OF SINGING. For me the music worked. I enjoyed the sounds of the 60's and the 70's and although some of it was a bit cheesy and fluffy it all had a good meaning. I'm so glad Jennifer Hudson got to showcase her voice and Beyonce's "Listen" is amazing. The movie was of an era. The director, Bill Condon, did an amazing job of showing people that at that time people of color did not have it as easy as white people did. It was a historical and musical movie. I must say that each and every frame in this movies is a work of art. The movie is visually breathtaking. Everything pops on screen whether it's Beyonce's HUGE afro or the bright lights on stage. I could have seen this movie without sound and I still would have loved it. It's beautiful.

The acting was the icing on the cake in this film. Eddie Murphy proved he could do serious stuff and sing at the same time. Amazing performance and of course I have to mention the buzz girl on this film Jennifer Hudson. She did an amazing job in this film and she easily played the outspoken Effie White. Jennifer stole many scenes in this movie and her pivotal song "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" is one of the most amazing things I've ever seen on film.

My girl Beyonce. I love her but I was very skeptical on whether she could pull of playing the lead singer of the Dreams, Deena Jones. The movie took place over a large part of Deena life and Beyonce played young Deena and older Deena perfectly. Again, I was afraid about the acting on Beyonce's half but she pulled off the serious parts. When she would fight with Curtis you felt it. Beyonce amazed me with her acting, I wasn't sure she could do it. And when she sung "Listen" I, wow. She blew me away. I had a dreamgasm when I saw Dreamgirls. It is a GREAT film with a good heart. It won't be for everyone because it's a musical but for me it's the prime cut. EVERYONE in the film is great and it's not just a trip to the movies, it's a movie experience. Go see it.

My suggestion is to see on at night.. all lights off.. on your BIGGEST TV with the sound turned UP.

+ the one song where she is saying she won't leave + first 20 minutes were actually good - every song sounds the same - characters never devolope - it's a 2 hour movie - 1 hour is pointless singing - story goes nowhere - boring singing scenes

You have to admit that Eddie Murphy did a fantastic job. Everyone sees him as the funny man but to see him perform is different. The singing in this movie was fabolous. One thing that was kinda off for me is that there were too many songs put too close together. It's kinda like "Again didn't you just sing". But I enjoyed the movie.
