It is interesting to imagine what works Shakespeare might have created had his court been modern Hollywood, instead of that of Queen Elizabeth. And certainly his work has been put fine use in some movies that have transplanted the text to non- Shakespearean, even contemporary, settings. From Kurosawa's Throne Of Blood (Macbeth) or Richard III to West Side Story (Romeo & Juliet) and even 10 Things I hate About You (The Taming Of The Shrew) the bard has had a pretty good time of it in modern film. Of course even the best premise can be let down by poor execution. She's The Man, adapted from Twelfth Night, is primarily a big screen showcase for TV star Amanda Baynes' comedy talents. Unfortunately these seem to be in short supply in this cross gender footballing knock about. Like a not very funny, or convincing, high school Mrs. Doubtfire it is all fairly flat and uninspired. The football footage is typically Americanized, even with Vinnie Jones' turn as school coach, with bicycle kicks, high fives and cheerleaders de rigueur. It only spikes interest momentarily late in the second act when a brawl erupts in a ladies room between three debutantes. Then it's back on its predictable way. One more like this and that Shakespeare kid may never eat lunch in this town again!

Teenage boy who's a teenage girl meets teenage boy and falls in love. Add some soccer and some funny jokes and you got "She's the man"

I think this is one of those average teen movies I sometimes love to watch. It's not outstanding but it has some good and funny scenes in it. I like the way Viola fights for her right and the whole story was cleverly plotted. Although I don't like Amanda Bynes that much I think she did a great job and was very courageous to walk around almost the entire movie with short hair. BUT it was very predictable that Viola would fall in love with her roommate and some scenes were just classic teen movie, the end for example.

Good and somehow funny movie. Lighthearted comedy.
