Unlike other video game movies, this is actually a very well done movie and the first gore fest movie I have ever seen. I liked it a lot and loved the darkness of the little girl Alessa.

When I first heard there was going to be a film adaptation of thse brilliant games by Knoami, I was the first person in line to see this film, and boy, I wish I wasn't in that line at all...

Silent Hill is a film that had huge potential. It is based on one of the best horror games in the business, and had great actors such as Rhada Mitchell playing roles of the characters from the games. The actors do a reasonable job on this one, and the set design still keeps the dark, creepy and ominious enviornments of the hugely popular game franchise, but, it's all due to one flaw:

the script.

The script in Silent Hill is one of the most flat peices of writing in movie history. The games lack the strong, concerning emotion of whenever a zombie appears or whenever somebody dies as they do in the game, all most of the characters do is just stand there and keep a straight face.

The only minor reedeeming qualities of this film are the fact it follows the plot of the first game pretty closely, and contains the most popular Silent Hill character: Mary as the main character, but sadly these things are nothing essential to pioneer the film forward.

Overall, Silent Hill is another typical gane adaptated film, with the same overall lack of effort and poor writing like the rest.

I must say when I saw this I was stunned to see that the animations were very well done, and the acting met (didnt exceed) my liking. The eerieness mystery mist terrifying monsters and the music (I liked it a lot!) made this movie quite worth seeing for the game lovers and horror lovers. 5/5 =]

I’m a big FAN off the Silent Hill game series and I was dead excited when I found out they were making the movie but I actually thought that it would just be like the other game-to-film movies, ‘Dull and Disappointing’. But actually, Silent Hill I would say is the best game-to-film movie out there. I did think that the film was disappointing at some point but it was a good film none the less.

The Plot: 3/5
Based on the best-selling horror game, Silent Hill stars Radha Mitchell as Rose, Not Harry Mason, a desperate mother who takes her adopted daughter, Sharon, Not Cheryl Mason, to the town of Silent Hill in an attempt to cure her of her ailment. Not like in the game were Harry Mason and his adopted daughter go to Silent Hill for a holiday break. After a violent car crash, Sharon disappears and Rose begins her desperate search to get her back. She descends into a fog of smouldering ash and into the centre of the twisted reality of a town’s terrible secret. Pursued by grotesquely deformed creature and townspeople stuck in permanent purgatory, Rose begins to uncover the truth behind the apocalyptic disaster that burned the town 30 years ago.
Once you are in Silent Hill, there is no turning back.

Good Points:
The story is some what the same.
The Soundtrack is excellent and is also done but the man who did the game soundtrack Akira Yamaoka who is also the executive producer. The Silent Hill feel is brilliant.
Monster and creature design.
Some parts of the film were well acted.
Jodelle Ferland was great as Sharon? Why didn’t they name her Cheryl like in the game? And Alessa.
The Red Pyramid Head.

Bad Point:
No Harry Mason.
No Dr. Michael Kaufmann.
The fact that the main character is a female. Nothing wrong with female characters, it’s just I would have like it better if it was a male character and his name was Harry.
Some points in the film feel weak.
Some acting felt dull and over the top, I.e. - Laurie Holden as Cybil Bennett and Sean Bean as Christopher Da Silva Who was he in the game?
Some parts of the story was different from the game. I know they were trying to make something different for the viewers to see but as a fan of the game series, I would have liked it better if it were the same as the original first games story.
The ending was some what weak I thought.
Dahlia Gillespie is a good person? They made someone else the main bad person. What’s that all about? I thought that was a let down. Lisa Garland, the nurse from the first game is called Anna in the film and she doesn’t have a big role in the film as she did in the game.
Even though The Red Pyramid Head was cool and was the only real thing Besides the music that really made the film ‘Silent Hill’ I felt as if he really shouldn’t have been in the film. The Red Pyramid Head is James’s enemy from Silent Hill 2. It just didn’t feel right seeing him in the film without there being and James Sunderland. There are people who live in Silent Hill. They’ve lived in the church for just about 30 years. How did they get food to have survived all this time?

The Film was good and I did enjoy it. I found some parts a wee bit off. I just wish they did it the same as the first game. But it certainly is the best game-to-film out there right now.
