One musical that is almost tailor-made for the screen, it is impossible to separate the film from its strong performances by nearly the entire cast. It is also notable for integrating the script with the music in a way that complements the captivating and interesting story of a proud family in Austria during the war. Sadly, one of the last of the great musicals as well.

Also of note is the score aside from the songs themselves - the music continues in the background to set the tone for the more dramatic moments and helps integrate the film as a whole. Though unrealistic, I really think the puppet show in the drawing room is possibly one of the highest energy performances on motion picture film.

What a great classical. At any stage I feel down I just put in this film to boost me. The on-screen romance between two great legends of the screen is done marvolously.

an award-winning classic, with plenty of singing (hence the name) and romance and an involving story to boot. musicals don't get much better than this, and its bound to keep you watching it over and over.

Good movie with a great story to tell and it tells it well my rating is 4 stars.

I love this movie. It's a classic. Even though it's old, it was very well done, the acting was great, but the songs are the best. The story is also very good. I could watch it again, and again...
