I love period pieces. I wish I could travel back in time to the fifties era. While I doubt it was far from the innocent 50's I always see in movies and comic books, they do paint a pretty nice, naive picture.

This leads to Betty Page, the symbol of that time, a pretty, naive picture.

Of course I have been aware of Betty Page since I probably ever became aware of girls, but I really didn't know much about her. I saw some facination in her, especially with goth chicks and stuff but I never took the time to really find out more.

The Notorious Betty Page has resolved that. In this picture you get a nice snapshot of the rise and disappearance of Betty Page. Her innocence and naive personality totally reflect the fifties era perfectly. Somehow, the film shows (just barely touching on it) Betty's abusing father (barely a hint) and her horrible gang rape. Most movies these days would have really focused on that tragedy and never gotten over it. But, apparently Betty did and so does this movie. Betty's personality stays sweet even after those incidents whereas many would have spiralled down in bottle of whisky and drugs. Not Betty, she just goes along for a neat, albeit controversial ride.
