Flags of Our Fathers is Clint Eastwood's WWII drama about the struggles of loss, heroism and money in the era of the "greatest generation." And before I start, let's face it: ever since Million Dollar Baby Eastwood couldn't make a bad movie if he wanted to, and this film definitely meets his high standard.

It is the story of the last three living soldiers of the six who got their picture taken raising the replacement victory flag at Iwo Jima (the original was taken down and given to a politician). Eastwood uses some really interesting framing to alternate between these men at the battle and in America where they become big heroes and are hired to encourage the purchase of war bonds. However, these characters are very multi-dimensional and none of the three actually considers them self a hero at all.

These guys pull off a great, natural feeling acting job that really holds the film well. Also, a strong visual contrast is shown between the colorful USA and the washed out, sepia/grayscale battlefield that is full of gruesome carnage. It works well as a companion to Iwo Jima (as intended), and even when Eastwood tries way too hard to pull off a Spielberg equivalent he still does a great job and avoids the cliche's that you might expect to find here. It's just too bad that it is only an arm's length away from being a blow-your-mind American classic.

I thought the movie was great! It was heart warming and touching too. All the actors acted perfectly, the story was simple and good, the war scenes were the best, the last 15 to 20 minutes could have been edited, they could have made it 10 minutes...

All the actors acted perfectly, the story was simple and good, the war scenes were the best, the last 15 to 20 minutes could have been edited, they could have made it 10 minutes or so, it seemed that the movie was very long if you know what I mean, but it was a very good movie though, good for everyone to watch!

Flags Of Our Fathers is truely a fantastic movie, Clint Eastwood directed this superbly, and the Steven Spielberg was a brilliant producer, based on a true story about three soldiers who raised the american flag on the japanice island Iwo Jima dureing the World War Two, they give you flashbacks from the war, and it`s superbly done, this is one of the movies that allmost makes me cry, especialy th ending is rely strong and touching.
