"A laughably bad attempt at a horror movie."

'Mortuary' is one of the most laughably bad horror films I've ever seen. There were times where the film was so bad, it was good, and unlike, say, 'Jeepers Creepers', which left me unsatisfied and annoyed at it for the amount of my time it had just wasted, 'Mortuary' is one of those films that's really quite good at being bad. The plot is extraordinarily convenient and unbelievable and the acting was so bad it made me laugh. Worth watching at least to see proof of the decline of one of horror's greatest directors.

Tobe Hooper is one of the most hit-or-miss directors around. His directorial debut, 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre' is easily among the greatest horror films ever made, yet 'Mortuary', and his Masters of Horror episode, 'Dance of the Dead', are among the most inexcusable horror movie piles of trash released in some time. They feature terrible actors with terrible acting abilities and really quite ridiculous plotting, yet they continue to be made and Tobe Hooper's good reputation as a film director is slowly decreasing.
