Look, this isn't a bad movie, but it's just nowhere near as good as the comic, which itself isn't Alan Moore's best work.

If you are looking for a good movie, then watch this. The storyline, the characters, it's all perfect. One of my favorite movies of all time.

Entertaining on all levels, has some of the best dialog in recent history, most notably in the monologues by V. The acting is solid, and visually it is entertaining as well.

I really don't recall all of this movie that is probably why i don't rate it so well...but it's an alright movie, lots of nice killing...kinda confusing how it all works out I think it would be a lot better if i watched it one more time.

The basic premise has been done before. A futuristic totalitarian government rules its people with iron fist in the name of security and continued prosperity. Then along comes a rebel who manages to rally the people to his cause and give the evil ruler s plenty of problems.

That premise can easily make for a cheesy movie -- thinking Aeon Flux -- but in this case it was really well done. The performance of the guy in the mask, named V, is what really made this movie. Here is a character who expresses absolutely zero emotion with his face (because it's a mask) yet by the end the story you feel for him and his sadness at what had become of the world. Of course we get a lot of that through the performance of Natalie Portman also who acts as sort of a pupil to V.

It's not so much of an action movie as it is a suspenseful drama. Through the investigation of the chief inspector we slowly learn about V's past and how the current government came to be. There's a certain amount of political commentary along the way which isn't at all out of place. One of the reasons why this genre exists is to make observations of our current political conditions by envisioning a worst-case outcome at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Being produced by the Wachowski brothers we get a few pretty cool -- and sometimes slow motion -- fight scenes. The last of which includes some pretty cool knife effects. The running time is just over 2 hours which is just about the right amount of time for V for Vendetta to tell its story.

Last week I reviewed Braveheart. I hate to repeat myself, but I could not come up with any other movie to review besides V. How will I repeat myself? For one thing, both movies deal with the same theme; Freedom. In V, there are plenty of other themes as well though. I said that Mel Gibson's performance in Braveheart is good because it's powerful. Well, Weaving is nothing but pure, unadultered power as V. Now, I hope you all will forgive me for such possible monotone contents of the two reviews. I will now commence the actual review for a change. The script is the best thing about V For Vendetta. There are an unspeakable amount of different layers into it, most of which deal with political and social themes such as freedom, religion, sexuality and censorship. There are actually so many of these layers, that some are confused by them, and baffled. I originally saw this movie in the theatres, not too long after it premiered. In the theater, there were about twenty people or so. Among them was a group of students that I recognised since they were in the same school that I was in. Before the movie, I overheard them talking about some friend of theirs and calling him "a **** **** and such. They were basically discussing his homosexuality, apparently the guy had came out of the closet so to speak. It was somewhat obvious that atleast some of these men were homophobic. Anyhow, after the movie, as I was leaving the theatre, I overheard them yet again. This time, however, they were talking about the movie itself. They called it spectacular, and praised it to heavens. This confused me. How could a group of homophobic people love a movie with such pro-gay scenes? Then I understood it. Since there are tons of things in this movie, it is impossible to notice them all on one viewing. They had missed the pro-gay statements completely. That's how gigantous this movie's contents are; you're bound to miss some of it the first time around. In the regular medium of reviewing a film's plot, V For Vendetta has good, although tad bit cliched, charecterisation and it keeps you nailed to your seat with the constantly rewarding storytelling. The dialogue is also a lot of fun, especially with V's character, who tends to speak in that funny, yet incredibly entertaining Shakespearean fashion. The acting in Vendetta is commonly called magnificent, atleast when it comes to Hugo Weaving, who portrays the "terrorist" V. All that praising is indeed earned. Even though none of his previous roles have been really that good in my opinion, here Weaving prooves that he can act, atleast physically, with a great deal of power. Natalie Portman also receives praise from me, even though I am not a huge fan of her accent. She still nails the part of Evey Hammond with utter perfection; she is the way the character is meant to be. Stephen Rea has a bizarre performance as the police inspector trying to find V; I don't know what he did with the role, but whatever it is, it worked well. The rest of the supporting cast do their jobs just as they are supposed to. Worth mentioning though is John Hurt as the power hungry dictator. He manages to sneak in some true scariness into his perfromance. Also, fun fact: He played the main character in George Orwell's "Nineteen Eighty-Four," a film that obviously inspired this one. McTiegue is a wonderful director. The three action scenes that we get throughout the movie have been directed and edited in a way that they actually seem clear and you always know what's happening, yet you still remain excited. The climax of the movie is also something that could only be called audiovisual beauty. V For Vendetta is a powerhouse of a movie. The script is one of the best of last year, and the technical aspects are great as well. I find little to no reason to not to give this movie the grade it deserves.
