Much like many of Miike's films, Dead or Alive is so violently over-the-top that traditional modes of criticism seem almost inappropriate. Plot? Acting? I do not care... Miike took two of Japan's biggest V-Cinema stars (Aikawa and Takeuchi) and set them loose in a film that could have been made by John Woo had HE been the one to snort that mile long line of blow (yeaaaah, THAT one). The film starts off with a stomach full of noodles exploding and gets only more absurdly gratuitous after that. The orgy of gore culminates in a showdown between Takeuchi and Aikawa that is so inane that it makes perfect sense. Recommended!
