Thank You For Smoking, written and directed by Jason Reitman stars Aaron Eckhart as Nick Naylor, a cigarette lobbyist who will stop at nothing to put a positive spin on smoking. Eckhart does a great job in portaying the complex character of Nick Naylor, a man different at work then at home or in the dating world. This multi-dimensionality is shown in how he is great at selling "BS" for a living, still wants his son to learn to stand up for his opinions and think for himself while at the same time is having a fling with a journalist poorly played by the cast's weak point Katie Holmes.

He also meets with Maria Bello's character who is a lobbyist for drinking and David Koechner's gun-rights defender who are subtly hilarious and downright enjoyable. J.K. Simmons is flawlessly cast as Naylor's boss and Robert Duvall croaks out a great handful of jokes and Robert Lowe plays a movie exec. so naturally funny it is almost weird.

Despite its undeniable humor Reitman seems like he didn't know where the jokes should stop. He wrote great humor in his screenplay but sort of overplayed the humor and oversell every last punchline like a perfectionist gone haywire.

Nonetheless, this is one of the best dark comedies in a while and among the best films for 2006.

Surprisingly, this movie isn't about smoking. No. It's not going to put forward arguments about how you should keep puffing away to your grave. It's about the power of a solid argument, a good solid argument, and how it can turn even despicable and dirty subjects (in this movie, the tobacco industry) into saints and angels. Nick Naylor, our protagonist who happens to be a lobbyist for Big Tobacco, shows us how much we can do with the right amount of persuasion and the right argument. It's truly what makes great men great.

Not all it could have been but still a very good movie worth watching. This movie is about the tobacco industry but also adresses other lobbyists working in the USA (Alcohol, NRA, etc). Fun, entertaining but does not really teach us anything new...

Not all it could have been but still a very good movie worth watching. This movie is about the tobacco industry but also adresses other lobbyists working in the USA (Alcohol, NRA, etc). Fun, entertaining but does not really teach us anything new like another satire of the same genre, the excellent Lord of War.

This film is very well written and I guess that to take the plot of this movie will made a sarcastic, and very well done comedy based upon the invasion of the cigarrete. I really like how the film and the cast played, and Jason Reitman was awesome...
