From the director of the Akira comes Steamboy, a nice action movie featuring stunning animation. The story takes place in an alternate mid-1800 Britain where steam is king. The movie centers around the talented Steam family and more importantly the youngest of them, Ray Steam. Ray soon finds out that his grandpa has gotten into trouble with his newest creation the steamball, and of course, it's up to young Ray to save the day in spectacular action scenes. But, there are bumps in the road, and sadly they come in the form of the supporting characters and the voice work. Other than Ray Steam and Scarlett, the other characters in the movie are rather static and feel unemotional, but then again that could be because of the voice acting which could be better. But overall, Steamboy is a great ride and features some of the most amazing animated sequences. If you love a good action movie or animated movie at that, then you will be pleased, otherwise you might want to steer clear.
