Who would have thought a movie set almost entirely in a tree could be at all interesting? And yet, Phillips delivers. David Hewlett (Cube, Nothing) is at his best as the arrogant advertising executive who asked the wrong kid for directions, and Cle Bennett is downright obnoxious as Shark, the gang leader. A wonderful suspense film, it will have you on the edge of your seat, caring about every single one of the characters, watching as their deepest flaws are brought to the surface, and wondering how they will survive the night.

Treed Murray is a story driven by dialogue. It is a battle of wills. A war of words. We get to sit there and watch as amateur psychology takes its toll, wreaking havoc on the gang’s unity and on Murray’s conscience. It’s a single night that will change these characters forever, and to be able to watch that transformation is a rare treat in the movie world, where so much emphasis is put on explosions and campy romances.
