A fairly faithful following of the Scott tale of Norman and Saxon rivalry and chivalry at the time of Richard the Lion Hearted, but some parts seem lukewarm and are overshadowed by Elizabeth Taylor. Not by her role as Rebecca, but just by being Elizabeth Taylor. It is kind of a shame, because early in her career, Liz unintentionally dominated movies just by showing up.

Robert Taylor makes an adequate Ivanhoe, though somewhat subdued, and Joan Fountaine just looks beatific for most of the story. There are also a lot of soundstage scenes with indifferent backdrops, a little more of the great outdoors would help.

The flow here just isn't as fast-paced or exciting as "The Adventures of Robin Hood" and other great adventures.
