Leona Stevenson is a spoiled,snooty,domineering,and bed-ridden hypercondriac.A woman use to getting her way.But,on this night,things are not going as she wants.First her husband Henry(who is the vice-president of her Fathers pharmacutical company) does not come home as he usually does.She assumes that he is working late.Second,the nurse who usually there was given the night off by her husband Henry.She makes call after call to various people(including her Father)inquiring to each whether they have seen Henry or not.Making one particular call,Leona cross-wires with another call where two men are dicussing a murder contract.Leona is able hear them,but they cannot hear her.She listens to the men talk about killing a woman at 11:15 that night somewhere in the heart of New York.Before Leona can find out who the woman is the line cuts off.She calls the police in an attempt to have the number traced,but given her earliar nagging calls the police do not take her worries seriously.Through a series of flashbacks we see Leona,and her relationship with various people;her Father,her pysciatrist,and how she met her future husband Henry.She would go from a cool domineering socialite, to a panic-stricken wreck as the continue phone calls,and flashbacks makes it clear to Leona that she is the woman to whom the two men were discussing the hit on.Each person that she talks to(all over the telephone)relays to her information concerning her health,her marriage,and the whereabouts of her husband Henry who seems to have disappeared.Confusion turns to disbelief which in turns,turns to fear as each flasback story informs Leona of the reasons therefore,of the plot to kill her,and how Henry her estranged husband fits into the plot.
