A very enjoyable funny animated movie. me and my brother enjoyed it the most but the rest of my family just thought it was okay. I like the action, the humor, and John Heder playing a video game geek. Great movie!!

"DJ" (voiced by Mitchell Musso) has been noticing some strange goings-on at the house across the street owned by the mean, old "Nebbercracker" (Steve Buscemi). He has been spying on the house and "Nebbercracker", even though he has been told by his parents (voiced by Fred Willard and Cathrine O'Hara in cameo roles) not to. "Nebbercracker" is known to take anything from children which lands on his property, including the basketball of "DJ's" friend "Chowder" (voiced by Sam Lemer). "DJ" tries to tell adults that there is something up, but they won't listen. So he, "Chowder" and a neighborhood girl named "Jenny" (voiced by Spencer Locke) investigate the house after "Nebbercracker" has an apparent heart attack while yelling at "DJ" amd "Chowder" and rushed to the hospital. What they find is a house that seems to be alive, and try to kill it themselves based on the advice of a video game junkie (voiced by Jon Heder). But, they eventually find out the truth the the house and gain an unexpected ally in their battle with the house. The first thing you will notice is that the animation is spectacular. It has an almost realistic 3-D look with the depth of the scenery. It actually looks more like a 3-D model than a 2-D computer animated movie since it really looks as if you are looking into the distance in some scenes. And the detail is amazing in this animation. In one scene you are looking at the house, with "DJ" blocking most of the camera shot. If you look closely at his shirt in this particular scene, you actually see the stitching of the sweater. Even the inanimate things seen in this film (buildings, trees, fences) look like they are not computer animated. Heck, you could even see the individual blades of grass. There are some great performances in this film. At times I had to remind myself that these are animated characters. The delivery of lines were very believable and helped bring the characters to life. I'd go as far as saying that the chemistry between the performers was excellent. Not one person who lent their voice to this film appeared to be reading from a script, which is common practice when doing the voiceovers for animation. This is a very gentle horror movie. You will not see any blood in this film at all. Very young kids might scream, but older kids and adults will take the scary moments as comical more than scary. I do not believe this movie will cause nightmares. For me, the comedy was more chuckle-worthy more than anything else. I didn't chuckle or laugh at many jokes, but I did at a small chunk of the comedic moments. Kids will definitely laugh at these moments if you ask me. There is even some jokes targeted to adults. The music in this movie is OK, but nothing really stands out. You mostly have instrumentals in the entire movie. This movie is not perfect. But it is pretty fun. I would check it out if you catch it on HBO or another movie network. It might even be a pretty good rental for your kids.

Monster House was released into theaters October 24, 2006, from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. This Halloween targeted horror flick only runs for an hour and thirty seven minutes. Looking for some good fun for the holiday of Halloween? Monster House is a movie that is entertaining and enjoying watching. With a movie directed by Gil Keenan and produced by Robert Zemeckis and Steven Spielberg, nothing goes wrong. The voice-over cast is headed by Steve Buscemi and Maggie Gyllenhal and also has Jon Heder and Nick Cannon to bolster it. With a strong cast and great production this movie was destined to be a great children’s flick for a long while. I believe it fell nothing short of its expectations. A classic tale of imagination meeting reality, this digitally created film goes beyond just the creepy old man in the neighborhood. Instead of just the creepy old man, it involves the house which takes on the spirit of his wife, who passed away in the house years ago. That’s where the neighborhood kids come in, DJ, Chowder and Jenny. The police don’t see anything wrong with the house. The children on the street notice that toys are disappearing from the yard of the house. DJ is the leader of the group with the most bravery and ambition to impress Jenny. Chowder is the scared on who makes jokes and shows how childish and stupid he can be throughout the movie. Jenny is the super smart older girl who DJ has a little crush on. This trio works in harmony to get to the bottom of the mystery. After observing the toy eating house, the kids set out to see where all the toys went and why the house was eating them. They first tried calling the police and that didn’t help anything at all. DJ and the gang are left to their own imaginations to devise a plan to bring down the haunted house. After a few failed attempts and a couple brushes with death and danger the kids find out the true story behind the houses personality. This is a perfect children’s horror movie. It isn’t too scary that it will give nightmares but it doesn’t bore you to sleep. I like this movie because it was comedic and suspenseful. The horror aspect of it helped it be more suspenseful. I also liked the humor in the film that added to it. I think kids would like it automatically. Not because it is animated, but because there is a thrilling and suspenseful storyline and it is funny. I don’t think the movie is that educational and I don’t think it really has to be. I mean it has a couple scenes where a child might learn something but its purpose is clearly entertainment. I think there could have been more diversity in the characters. They were all white middle class suburban kids. They only differ in ability like smarts and physical ability. I think the main message it sends to kids is, if you see something wrong don’t just try to fix it yourself, get help. I do believe there is probably one thing in the movie they shouldn’t try and do which is breaking into people’s houses. I give this movie a B. I like the comedy and storyline of the film. I think the whole family would get a kick out of watching this flick. I don’t think this movie is bad for children to watch either. I like that it is a Halloween movie geared to get the kids ready for the horror holiday.

it was pretty good and scaryer than i thought, it would have scared me a lot if i was a kid, tho i was a fraidy cat when i was young. but any way this movie was kinda creepy but still very good! this is not a movie i would go out and buy tho.

I really, really enjoyed this movie. It wasn't the best done or most clever cartoon ever, but I had a lot of fun and enjoyed every last minute in that theatre. I left with a smile, what can I say?

I rented the DVD. I gave the rating as if I went to see it on the big screen. I want to rate it a 4/5 stars after seeing the DVD extras. I have more respect for the film, because of the actors involved. Now, the movie is geared toward the young...

I rented the DVD. I gave the rating as if I went to see it on the big screen. I want to rate it a 4/5 stars after seeing the DVD extras. I have more respect for the film, because of the actors involved. Now, the movie is geared toward the young audience. The story and animation were fine. If it weren't for the actors involved drawing me in, the movie is what you see. Just enough there to not bore you. This story could actually be compared to Dysturbia.

This movie seems like a cross between the works of Tim Burton & Roald Dahl. A very cute story and I like the way the animations are done.

A weird, kid mystery. I still have to admit Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner, and Spencer Locke did a good job of playing their parts, but this was a kid movie. But thats no reason to bring the movie down!

Monster House is a great movie about 3 kids who investigate a strange house after its owner has a heart attack.

Once the kids figure out that the house is in fact alive that hatch a plan to stop it, and after getting the advice of a guy named "Skull", they plan to stop the house at the source of life, the heart.

So, DJ, Chowder, and Jenny, actually make it into the house, but before they came dowse the fireplace, the house spits them out, and Nebbercracker returns in an ambulance.

the kids then learn the horrible truth about the house that all those years that Nebbercracker was mean to everybody was to protect him, and that the house is his dead wife Constance, so with Nebbercracker's help they blow the house up, finally putting Constance's soul to rest.

The animation was amazing, it used the same type of animation s the Polar Express, and it looked great.

The characters where perfectly cast, and I think Steve Buscemi, did a great job as Nebbercracker.
