Rent is amazing!!!!! I am watching the movie even as I am writing this. A drunk Angel, after the New Year’s party, just busted the padlock on the door after Benny evicted them. Rent is the greatest musical out there. I love all of the songs. I have the songs on my iPod and am always listening to them. This is one of those movies that you either love or hate. Anthony Rapp stars as Mark Cohen. He is filming a documentary about homeless people who are HIV-positive. Adam Pascal stars as Mark’s best friend and roommate, Roger Davis. Roger loves his guitar and writes songs. He also falls in love with Mimi Marquez, played by the sultry Rosario Dawson. She completely fits her role as the stripper, junky Mimi. She has a killer voice and knows how to move around during her Cat Scratch Club scenes. Another cute pair consists of Tom Collins, played by Jesse L. Martin, and Angel Dumont Schunard, played by the extremely talented Wilson Jermaine Heredia. These two actors are amazing. They bring Collins and Angel to life so well that you almost forget they are acting. Such talent! Maureen Johnson, Idina Menzel, and Joanne Jefferson, Tracie Thoms, make up the completely opposite-in-every-way couple. Joanne wants her life to be completely structured and in her control whereas Maureen is content to live life as it comes without any rules (or commitment). Benjamin Coffin III, Taye Diggs, serves as the villain of this movie. He threatens to evict Mark and Roger due to their delinquency in paying the rent. This movie follows the lives of the eight friends through their fight with AIDS. Mark is the only one of the group who doesn’t have AIDS. I could watch this movie all day.

Rent is about 8 friends in the East Village of New York City during the AIDS epidemic. There was a lot of songs and scenes that didn't make it to the final version of the movie, but I wasn't dissappointed with it. They got the over all point of the movie. I'm glad they had all the life-support songs, that was a big point on the plot. All the actors were amazing. I couldn't say a thing bad about any of them. I highly recommend it, to anyone who likes musicals that is. Two thumbs up and 5 stars.

I've seen Rent in theater and count it as one of my favorite musicals. When I went to see it on film, I wasn't disappointed. They translated a musical that is perfect for the stage into a likable film, adding certain depth/understanding to certain issues. Most of the cast returns and deliver another great musical performance. Portions of songs are cut out and/or changed into dialogue but this is done for stylistic reasons, for helping the story flow on film. My one pet peeve was the cutting of "Goodbye Love." It's an extra on the DVD but the DVD setup is too cumbersome. They should have just added it to the movie cut and not put it on DVD 2. Either way, by turning the musical into film, I can watch it whenever I want. However, if you like the movie, see it on stage. It's a great experience.

I really do like this movie a lot. The music is great and catchy. Especially 'Seasons of Love' and 'La Vie Boheme'. The characters and storyline are really unique. I never get tired of watching it.

Rent was a very good movie if you're into musicals. I am not into musicals however I still enjoyed this movie.

The singers are all excellent and must have put countless hours into memorizing and perfecting their lines.

Rent did not rely on special effects, or CG action scenes, it relied solely on good acting. That makes this movie even better, knowing that these actors actually had to do everything theirselves instead of letting a CG model do it for them, a rarity in todays movie world.

I am sorry to do this to you fans of "Rent" out there, but both the film and the play are an absolute bore. I could care less about the story and even less about the characters.

Although it took it 10 years to get from Broadway to film, the results are amazing. 6 out of 8 of the original broadway cast members were also part of the film cast, and newcomers Tracie Thoms (Joanne) and Rosario Dawson (Mimi) did an amazing job. Also, Chris Columbus did an amazing job keeping so much of the Broadway show the same. Of course, you also have to love the amazing music and choreography. I can't imagine a better film, and I'm so glad that the message will be forever preserved, even if the show is stopped.
