I didn't plan on going to see this movie at all despite all the hype. I mean, Tom Cruise alone is reason enough for skipping it, not to mention the stories for the first two movies made me feel nauseous. My boyfriend convinced me to see it, however, so now I've seen all three MI movies. I feel dirty.

Anyway, the movie itself actually wasn't all that bad, considering I had really low expectations going in. It's a slight improvement over the last one, but that's not saying much. Action-wise, it's the same old blow-them-up gun-them-down stuff, nothing we've never seen before. The only action scene I really enjoyed was the one involving the whole MI team, not just Tom Cruise himself. It's what MI movies should have been like; it should have been about team effort, not Tom Cruise getting as much screen time and close-ups as humanly possible. Seriously, the whole movie couldn't go by without a super Tom Cruise close-up every 5 minutes or so. It's very disturbing, especially since Cruise mostly has only one expression (the intense one where he screws up his face and looks at you like he's going to swallow you up .. you know the one). As for the story, I guess one can argue that the third movie has more story and character development, but when it's all about Tom Cruise's character, I can safely say that I can't care less. The major twist in the film makes absolutely no sense and is very emotionally manipulative. The romance between Cruise's character and his love interest bored me to tears, and the ending? /spoiler/ Who bought for a second that Cruise's character would die? Yet they felt compelled to do a 10-minute of his love interest pumping Cruise's chest, howling over his body and the camera zooming out tricks as if the audience would be fooled into thinking he was dead. I mean, c'mon! We're no idiots. /end spoiler/

Since I give this film 3 stars, there are indeed some things I like about it, most of which is the delicious Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, who plays Declan, one of the team members who, like the whole movie really, serve no other purposes except to make Tom Cruise look good. The film people tried to downplay his hotness by giving him as few close-ups as possible, especially when he's in the same scene as Tom Cruise. Guess they don't want anyone to upstage the egomaniac. Boo I say. I would've paid $15 just to see Jonathan Rhys-Meyers's close-ups. Other than that, I was somewhat entertained by the movie in spite of myself. I especially had a lot of fun laughing at the story and Tom Cruise's non-acting. It was hilarious.
