Naina Catherine Kapur lives in New York City with her family. On the surface, she lives a fairly normal life taking MBA classes with her best friend Rohit and helping her mother Jennifer run the family restaurant. However, Naina's family is still suffering and desperately sad from the loss of her father, who committed suicide. Her Catholic mother and Hindu grandmother fight constantly, adding a great deal of tension to the household and dampening Naina's spirit. But things change with the arrival of a prayed-for "guardian angel": Aman Mathur, who has moved in with his uncle across from Naina's house. A very happy and charming man, he makes it his personal mission to bring happiness to the Kapur home, and especially to Naina. Everyone quickly falls for his kind, gentle, and funny nature - and even Naina cannot resist. And so a love triangle begins: Naina falls in love with Aman, while Rohit ends up falling in love with the new, happier Naina. What no one else knows is that Aman is very much in love with Naina, but suffers from terminal heart disease. In order to spare Naina the sadness of eventually losing him, Aman lies and tells Naina that he is married. He then sets about to help Rohit win Naina's heart.
