Set in New York City circa 1939, the film centers on a reporter who notices that the world's scientists are disappearing. Teamed with a skilled pilot and an adventurous colleague, it's up to her to thwart the plans of a mad scientist bent on world domination.It's funny how one day changes so much. Just yesterday, the news came in that this movie was aiming for May 14th, 2004, which I questioned at some length, and now I've deleted all that because it's suddently become quite academic. My original point was that May 14th put this movie in the immediate midst of two other movies that seem to be aiming for the same audience (Van Helsing and Hellboy). Within hours however, news came to me that Hellboy has been pushed up several weeks to early April, and now... I don't have quite such a problem with this May 14th date. I guess I would just wonder now if Troy is going to be such a hype sensation that this film is overshadowed. Of course, if the F/X in this movie are amazing as the early word claims, Paramount has plenty of time to try to overshadow Troy :). (8/28/03) "Variety" reports that postproduction isn't expected to be finished until June, 2004, which means the May 14th, 2004 release date isn't going to happen. One of the places where that phrase, "The World of Tomorrow", was used in the 1930s (when this movie is set) was at the 1939 World Fair in New York City (the one they built that big golfball-looking geodesic sphere for), which used that phrase as its motto. This movie will feature a combination of black & white and color scenes.
