New Police Story marks the return of Jackie Chan to Hong Kong cinema. The biggest difference with this movie and almost every other Jackie Chan movie is the fact that his character has a flaw. The movie starts off with Chan in a drunken stupor and depressed after a hit goes horribly wrong when his entire squad is killed. He is rescued by a young cop who gets Chan to refocus his life and to take down the same people who took out his squad. But these thugs aren't just any regular thugs, they're kids. New Police Story is a dramatic movie showing Chan's downfall and recovery as he battles with these kids. Performances are great all round. If you're looking for Chan to star in a completely different role, then this is the movie to watch. Be warned though, New Police Story doesn't contain the usual Chan comedy.
