This is voyeurism at its finest. Not a great movie, not a film. But something worthy of attention. The general plot is laid out pretty well here at filmspot, so I won't repeat it. The actual story? Not so terrible. The thing that makes this plot enjoyable is that although it's slightly far fetched, the general course laid out by the direction of the pages could happen and it is this slight variation on reality that helps propel the plot along. What you get is a few very damaged people, not looking for love or change or what have you, but coming across a situation where things are allowed to blossom. That is the illusion we all face eventually: the power of change. The dream of youth.
The acting is good, but as one reviewer pointed out, they don't really have much to work with as far as the plot goes, because so much of the story is on a set of tracks and laid out for us as we go.
I'm a fan of Juliette Binoche, because of Blue, so I'm slightly biased toward her performance. That said, her accent is a bit much, she's been in England long enough that her teenage son has adopted the dialect. Unless this was metaphoric, at which case I withdrawal my comments.
Robin Wright Penn, not her best work, but she's emotional, touching, and devoted. Maybe it was actually just her character seemed a little devoid of purpose. I don't know. I'll have to watch it again and figure it out.
Jude Law seems to me to be trying to hard. He's done much better stuff with simpler 2-dimensional rolls. So I don't again...maybe it was the direction?
Overall, it is a touching little story about the nature of failure and deceit and interestingly, about forgiveness. A worthwhile watch to see the characters unravel and then try to sew things up again.

How lame is this movie.. I cannot begin. The general story is about how a man is not happy with his marriage and he goes looking for more. His business keeps getting broken into and he follows the kid to his home. He ends up feeling for the kid's mother and ends up having relations with her. Does this sound lame.. yes it does. The acting in this movie is at best average with the script all over the place. The hollywood stars are good but they do not have enough to work with. This was released in the movies but you can see how good it did.. very poorly. I cannot reccommend this movie because its pretty bad.
