Even if you don't like war movies, even if you hate reading subtitles, this movie is still worth seeing.

It is very well shot, directed, and edited. Edge of your seat is overused - this is one movie where it applies.

One of the greatest war movies ever made, and unusual in that it is coming from the German's point of view. An epic film, as it follows the crew from wolfpack happy times to their inevitable destruction, yet it never loses sight of the humanity on a personal level. The run-silent-run-deep scenes have been used so many times before, but the brilliant use of sound and cinematographry makes these scenes fresh and suspenseful here. There are at least four different versions of this film, and I prefer the director's cut, but I highly recommend any of them to anyone who can appreciate great films.
