For an independent film this DVD is damn good! The cinematography is excellent and the music is superb, the music alone is worth the price of the movie.

I really liked the comedic storyline of the movie. We see the misadventures of a rather gangly idiot drummer who ends up in a heap of trouble when he deserts accidentally, from his regiment. Of course, his killing one of his own troops, "accidentally" doesn't help his case when he is found guilty and stood up against the tree to be shot!

The acting of the drummer and the physcho British officer is excellent as well as the comedic performances of the supporting cast. Did I mention that this is a pantomine, the acting is done bar synchronized sound just like a Charlie Chaplin movie. It is so different from regular comedies but I think it really works.

What is also interesting are the extensive military engagements that we see throughout the piece. One is pretty long and although some of the battle scenes could have been trimmed, the DVD I bought was the Special Edition Director's Cut so I figured this is why the battle eliments went longer.

All in all the film is of a high standard. I only regret that I didn't see it projected in a theater as the movie was obviously shot on real film and not this video garbage! FIVE STARS!!!
