It's hard to know what to think about the Disney live-action films of the 60s and 70s. At the very least, I would have liked a little more realistic racing scenarios, with all the great Ferraris, Porches, Jaguars, Corvettes, Opals, and other roadsters featured in this movie. What you get never really strikes me as all that funny and is kind of a derivation of "National Velvet" with a Volkswagen as a horse. It's also a little too much to endure when Buddy Hackett plays the most fleshed-out character in the film.

Still, it's light and no less watchable than most comedies of the time, with a pure heart that distinguishes it and still leaves room for the "Wacky Races" and "Cannonball Run" derivatives to come.

Barrels of laughs! old school disney rocks! i wish they made movies like these nowadays!

Another old school live action great from Disney.

Great stunts, a nice sense of humour, a well picked cast, and the always loveable Herbie create a great easy going comedy for all ages.
