"'Tenebre' is an exceptionally written, brutal giallo classic."

Dario Argento's 1982 giallo 'Tenebre' is a difficult film to review. It's brilliantly written, densely layered, graphically gory and disturbing (originally banned as a video nasty), and has some of the best music I've ever heard in a horror film; but it can also get rather slow and boring, very hard to follow and has some very bad editing and dubbing and overall I'd call it only half as good as some of Argento's earlier films. It can only just barely compare to his 1977 masterpiece 'Suspiria', which is, in my personal opinion, the best piece of work he's ever done, but 'Tenebre' was made with enough artistic intent to get a high score from me. Probably also Argento's most violent film to date.
