It wasn't as great as I thought it would be. When I saw the trailer I thought this would be the new Godfather but I was very wrong. The plot isn't interesting, the story is weak and boring, it doesn't tell you anything interesting. The acting was good but that's it. 3 hours for that ending is a lot of waste of time. The think I liked was when the girl was thrown off the plane, I laughed a lot...

I thought this movie overall was a really great movie. It was very hard for me to understand it as did not live in the time when this was set and do not know a lot about the history behind it. I know what I have read and been taught, but sometimes it is not enough. I watched it with my father who has been around for quite some time and he helped me to understand this movie. I think if it were not for that I would not have liked this movie as much, not because it was bad, but because it is so very difficult to understand. Though this movie was hard to understand, I love the fact that it is not your Hollywood blockbuster type of movie. This movie has a great way of letting the watcher get into the story, as it does not tell you everything and leaves a lot to the viewer for interpreting and understanding. To me this is good because I am one who enjoys movies that make you think instead of make you into a zombie watching what is put up on a screen. This movie was a bit boring as it was very quite at times and had times where it was hard to hear what people were saying, but I don't think this is a bad thing necessarily, as any sort of action would have been inappropriate for this situation. The reason the movie is called the good Shepard is because indeed these are the Shepard's that we were watching, the CIA and KGB and so on. The sheep dogs would be the army, and the sheep would be everyone else, controlled and fearing the army and the Shepard's. Though the sheep's posses the power of great numbers compared to the sheep dogs and the Shepard's, they do not use this power to their advantage. Great movie once again, I wish I knew more about it before I watched it, but I am glad I did watch it, as I came out of it with more knowledge.

What in the hell is this...It has a lot of stars in it but its not very good. Yes the basic premise is good and the actors in the movie are good also. I must admit that this movie is very boring. It will definately put you to sleep. The pace of the movie is very slow and confusing. There are characters introduced and then they are killed before you know anything. Of course its hard to tell because there are no violence seen on the screen. The story is of a man played by damon who joins the fledgling cia and helps to expand it. Damon plays the lead character as a robot. Jolie plays the woman he gets pregnant and ends up marrying. She is there basically for window dressing because she adds nothing to this movie. Deniro shows up once in awhile for a few lines as well as hurt and baldwin. The problem with the movie is that with all these actors you except a great movie. This movie falls on its face and is very flat. There are scenes in this movie that are plodding and they tend to grind the film to a complete stop. Possibly with another director this movie would have been done better. The subject material is interesting but the outcome is not very good. I cannot recommend this because this movie is really just a long bore fest. Skip it and save your three hours for something else.

Edward (Matt Damon) is a very bright Yale University student who has a bright future in the CIA ahead of him. He meets Clover (Angelina Jolie) and they hit it off and fall in love. However, Edward wants more and is in pursuit of a better job, while he forgets his commitments to Clover. The story mimics the Cold War in the character development of Edward on the American side, and the involvement of the KGB on the Russian side. An intelligent movie that asks the question 'could you be a good shepherd, no matter what happens in your personal life'?

I first must defend that this is a Drama! Now, I was hoping for another Bourne movie. The wildest part, for me, was the lady thrown from the plane. (Nobody laughed but,) I busted up at the thick glasses he wore and then rubbing his head (I was thinking he must have, for real, got a headache.) and the sex scenes here. The acting was top notch with several top actors, but I found it boring (That can be Drama for you.) and you had to keep up with the flashbacks.

What catches you in the well scripted screenplay and direction by Robert DeNiro. I thought it was almost a documentary and because of that I loved learning how the CIA was formed.

As the previous reviews said, very well directed and made. One of the most realistic and sobering looks at the intelligence community as well as the espionage aspect of the Cold War. The plot is extremely intricate; while this at some times makes the movie a little dense, it befits a realistic espionage movie. The acting is superb: Matt Damon excels as Edward Wilson, Angelina Jolie plays a convincing (though rather small) role as his wife, and the appearance of Joe Pesci, however brief, is satisfying to a fan of his old movies. Altogether, the result is a very interesting and enthralling movie. The length is somewhat of a con though, especially as much of it is in side plots or largely unneccessary scenes that probably could've been cut out or shortened.
