The sequel to the summer blockbuster Men In Black was a long time coming. Basically, it you liked the first one, I think you'll also like the second. It was refreshing to see a comedy sequel that avoided the all-too-common formula of simply rehashing all the old jokes from the original. As he did with the LAPD, Agent J quickly establishes himself as a good agent within the MIB, so much so that some of the other agents have become annoyed with his perfectionist, gung-ho attitude. He keeps neuralizing his new partners for not living up to expectations. But when an old queen comes looking for an artifact left on Earth years ago, J must look not to a new partner, but to an old one. He must bring Agent K out of retirement. This proves not to be much help, though, because K neuralized himself to keep the information buried forever. Thus he must follow clues left behind before this artifact (or whatever it is, I forget) blows up on Earth. As I said before, this movie brings new aliens and new jokes to the series, with Frank the Dog having a much bigger part than he did the first time around. The movie is not without its stupid parts, however. Among them, a bold and miserably failed attempt by Zed to pull some karate on the villianess. Overall, though, this sequel will probably do at least as well at the box office as the original did and fans of the first movie will no doubt be able to find merit in it. The only question is how long the studio will wait before cashing in on the inevidible third Men In Black picture.

A perfect vehicle for franchise, this sequel suffered from lack of chemistry, a feel of the actors going through the motions, a disconnect with making the story truly immersive, the special effects being more starry than the stars, and that sophmore effect. I wanted to like it more than I did because of high hopes but I felt a bit let down and was happy when it concluded, not looking for another. Some good elements just an arrangement that wasn't.
