I love this film! One of the most Classic films of my childhood, and it will always be my favorite film no matter what. King Kong is awesome, and a lot of the fights on Skull Island were great.

The directing as well is stunning and the script is well written. Acting from Wray is hard to say, but she sure is good at screaming. Nothing to complain about in the other actors performances either. The classic original King Kong will remain the best.

A masterpiece of a fantasy and in many ways the result of the times in which it was made. What Cooper seemed to understand with this movie (and Peter Jackson didn't) was that a relationship between girl and ape can form without a strong emotional bond, and that the bittersweet and ambiguous death of Kong in the original is actually more thought-provoking. Aside from this, Depression-era escapism meets the top-of-the-line special effects of the time in Willis O'Brien's stop motion mastery (often re-using creatures created for the aborted film "Creation"). The trek through the jungle is like a trip through Hollywood history, miniatures and matte paintings from "The Most Dangerous Game" and a plethora of meticulous menaces at a time when not every school child knew the name of every dinosaur (I'm particularly fond of the stegosaur, probably a true marvel to audiences who suddenly realize the world of Kong is spectacularly dangerous). The pacing of the story is extremely well-done, there are really no spare or dull moments. At a time when many "talkie" movies had long gaps of silence, Max Steiner steps in with a modern musical score that presages his amazing Hollywood efforts in some of the greatest films of all time.

Cabot is wooden, Wray serviceable, and Armstrong a fine hammy promoter, but the star here is the fact that the love story between ape and woman does not need to be two-sided, the true point is that such a relic (for better or worse) doesn't stand a chance in a world so alien and "modern", something Armstrong (as Denham) sums up well (if a bit melodramatically) in the movie's final line.
