Whew. That's all I can say about Michael Mann's Collateral. Collateral is a fast paced and unbelievably intense thriller about cab driver Max (Jamie Foxx) who picks up Vincent (Tom Cruise) for his last fare of the night. It soon becomes apparent that Vincent is a hitman and he's here in Los Angeles to knock off a good group of people who are all witness in a mob investigation. What makes it so intense is the battle of characters between Max, who's best described as a dreamer who wants to do something but can't get around to it, and Vincent who does what he can to get his job done, but making sure he uses Max. Max starts to gain confidence in himself as Vincent goes from target to target which ends up in a climatic match between the two at the end. The acting here is top notch. Tom Cruise is brilliant as the ruthless yet philosophical Vincent, and Jamie Foxx is equally great as the cab driver who wants an easy life. Michael Mann does a great job in the direction of the film by providing a different camera view for all the scenes which does a great job of speeding up the action. The only problem with the film that keeps it from earning a full 5 stars is that the ending falls apart a little bit. But overall, this is a must see, and hang on, this is an adrenaline rush.
