Historical movies always have a special place in my movie watching regimen. The Patriot proves to be both compelling and visually pleasing. Another great performance from Mel Gibson with some very emotional scenes. Jason Isaacs did an amazing job as Tavington and practically had me cheering at his demise. If you are a fan of historical movies you will liek this film.

One of the best war movies ever made! Mel Gibson's finest performance!

Revolutionary war films suck

That's what everyone else thought of before this blockbuster smash film came to the theaters. Starring Mel Gibson as Benjamin Martin, based on Francis "The swamp fox" Marion. The film is the best war movie since Saving Private Ryan. Man! It's completly worth seeing.

I thought this film sucked before I saw it. In my American History class, I saw it, and it was the biggest action movie I've seen. One of my favorite weapons is the cannonball, which blew somebody's head off literally (blood was seen obviously), Mel's character's son's wife was burnt alive (a little creepy but amazing still), and another cannonball scene where a cannonball blows a mans leg off, and you can see the actual bones and gushing blood.

The Patriot is without a doubt very emotional, Martin loses 2 of his children (2 brothers) and his future daughter in-law to a man named Travilot (or something like that). Martin then leads the Patriot army into hit-and run tatics (a la the controversal scene where two of Martin's children kill british soldiers with guns plus other times)The film also has its Pirates of the carrabean style humor, in the bar scene of the town drunk, they know they are good soldiers. Near the end is the best part, when Martin leads the army towards the british, and the Patriots attempt to retreat. But Martin decides not to retreat and pretty much everybody follows him and kill everyone in their way. He finds Travolita and kills all the british in his way to fight him. Martin almost gets killed (some hits should have killed him). I found out the ending before I saw it. Benjamin is about to be killed by Travolita but he hits him with his gun, impales him, and kills him. The patriots get victory and go on to win the war.

The film is the best revolutionary war film ever! Go get the film, because it is the best kick butt film of 2000!

Historical and authentic movies has slightly been accurate at times and it turns out to be really good. The Patriot makes a frame for them, and its a satisfying watch. This movie seems very brutal and gives a powerful image of what the 17th century was. Roland Emmerich directed and produced in this movie and his effort of making this movie is very great. He restored the look and feel of the 17th century with authentic culture and war. His previous work include, Day after Tommorrow, Independence Day, Eightlegged Freaks and Godzilla. All of those movies captured the vibe of that era and The Patriot does that too.

Roland Emmerich made this movie out of the imposible. The design and texture of this movie, he directed is absolutely stunting and amazing. Most of the scenes in this movie captures the feel and look of a 17th Historial War movie. Like the scene when Benjaman and his kids ambushed a British convoy, helding a prisoner. The scene that proves more brutal is when Mel Gibson's character kept on hacking on the British soldier during the ambush with an axe. The wars are really full scale and its really great to watch and enjoy it. Back them racism were still not lifted but Mel Gibson character and his family treat them not slaves but just workers in their farm.(acknowledging them and speaking to them)In this movie, you really see how and what does the British do with injured American soldiers, killed them. Its as brutal as ever. They are much resincent of Nazi but without the torturing. People that are British are surprised how deeply this film affected them. After proving himself on the field of battle in the French and Indian War, Benjamin Martin wants nothing more to do with such things, preferring the simple life of a farmer. But when his son Gabriel enlists in the army to defend their new nation, America, against the British, Benjamin reluctantly returns to his old life to protect his son, now serving under his command, and his family from British tyranny. After his son died at the hands of the British commander, Benjaiman seeks vengeance.

The casting of this movie is through the roof. Mel Gibson, Heath Ledger, Joely Richardson and Chris Cooper all give sterling performances in a masterpiece of a film. Their acting is superb and astounding and gives the look and feel of a 17th century. Especially Mel Gibson, he proved to be really good at his portrayal.Mel Gibson is outstanding as he often is, but Heath Ledger made his mark in this film as Gibson’s son. Though I often find children tedious in films the youthful actors here are all amazing. Gregory Smith and Mika Boorem are both stand-outs as two of the Martin children. Adam Baldwin, Jason Isaacs, Lisa Brenner, Tchéky Karyo and Leon Rippy’s performances would have been award winning had they been leads. Although I am unsure of the historical accuracy, it hardly seems relevant in displaying the extreme circumstances of the conflict, managing to show one family's struggle while showing how none are left unaffected.

The visual effects in this movie, restores the vibe of a 17th century war. With shootings of cannons, muskets and such and such. Its definately worth a watch, seeing those visual effects is beatiful. The soundtrack The soundtrack is beautifully selected and I believe the directing to be Oscar-worthy.

Overall, The Patriot is a fine and amazing masterpiece. Its kinda of historial accurate and the excutation is great. The nostagia seemed to be very high in this movie. The ending of this movie seemed enjoying because the French and the Colonists of America cornered the British and the French looks so good. The wars are climatic and truely epic at its part. Its really a enjoyable movie at least. The American Revolution of this movie is just a very excellent what and what the British did to the Americans are really heartbreaking to watch. Its indeed a popcorn movie to watch. 8.7/10

The movie is long, but actually quiet entertaining. The fight scenes are done very will, I am not a Mel Gibson fan but I did enjoy this movie.
