Civil War veteran is asked to train Japanese men in an attempt to kill off the "Rebel" samurai's that threaten the Emperor's way of life. The Veteran is captured by the man he is trying to kill and eventually is turned against what he once stood for. He ends up a samurai fighting for what is right.
"The Last Samurai" is a very well written movie that really draws you in and has enough fight scenes to keep you interested. The acting is top notch, even with Tom Cruise in a Japanese setting.
The quality of this movie is pretty high but it does have it's slow parts. If you enjoy an action movie with a good story, or if you like James Bond Movies, I suggest you rent this one. It will stick with you for a while.

Tom Cruise plays Captain Nathan Algren who is hired by the Japanese emporer as an American military advisor. He trains a army to destroy the Samurai that will not let go of the old ways. Algren is captured in battle by the Samurai and kept by their leader Katsumoto played perfectly by Ken Watanabe. After some time Algren faces the ghosts of his past and embraces the Samurai culture he was hired to destroy. This movie is very well written and directed that you forget it is over two hours. Cruise's portrayal is very convincing and his developement is believable. I recommend this movie to anyone interested in other cultures.

This movie was pretty cool. I'm not a big fan of Tom Cruise, because his acting is not very good, but he did well in this movie. The story touched me and the whole battle over honor and tradition was awesome. I just love watching movies that show that there are things worth dying for. The battle scenes were pretty cool and the characters were interesting. Overall, great movie!

I can't explain this movie because I didn't really understand it. It was too dark for my liking. Some of the action fighting scenes were cool but the rest of it was pretty slow for me. I only gave this 4 out of 10.
