For a movie made 20-some years ago, this one holds up surprisingly well. The Fly (a remake of the 1950's classic starring Vincent Price) tells the tale of quirky genius Seth Brundle (played by quirky actor Jeff Goldblum), who develops a teleportation device. He falls in love with a writer, played by Geena Davis, and his life seems headed for success- that is, until he foolishly tries to teleport himself and accidently mixes his DNA with that of a housefly which gets caught in the machine. A grotesque metamorphosis ensues, with director David Cronenberg thickly laying on the gore, gross makeup and copiously spurting fluids.

After an interesting performance in the first half of the movie, Goldblum disappears into the fly outfit, and the film tends to devolve into a standard creep-out, but it's still worth a watch. The same can't be said for the unbelievably inferior sequel, made 3 years later. Skip The Fly, Part II- it's so bad it could gag a maggot...
